A correlation it had been discover between teeth and dementia. If you want to have an excellent memory when you get older,

you better clean your teeth every day. study published in the European Journal of Oral Sciences, reveals that if you lose your teeth, you will also miss your good memory.

The study, led by Patrik Hansson and Karin Sunnegardh, involved 273 participants, aged 55 to 80, who had an average of 22 teeth (ten less than a full denture). Participants had to answer a series of memory tests.

After analyzing the results, the scientists of the Umea University and the University of Stockholm, could see that people with fewer teeth recalled fewer things.

«The amount of teeth that a person has, is responsible for between 14% and 20% of the variation in their memory», the authors of Daily Mail had said.

People who had most of their teeth, had approximately 4% more of memory than the ones that did not. According to scientists, his may be due to the nerve endings innervating the jaw that are connected to the hippocampus – brain area linked with memories.
As a second hypothesis, scientists question whether the action of chewing, which increases blood flow in the brain, may contribute to the phenomenon. They also think that toothless people avoid certain kinds of foods, could cause a little intake of vitamins, protein and calories needed neurologically.

Finally, the scientists conclude that brushing your teeth is a very good step to prevent dementia, since bacteria in the mouth may well travel to the brain and cause inflammation and damage  … another factor that links the mouth with the. Health, after all, is integral.
